Friday, we were helping out with setting up for a benefit auction and most of the kids were playing outside. We had just gone outside and Keith came running to me saying Owen had fallen and cut his head and he was going to the Emergency Room.
Of course, I went running, too, and when I saw Owen, a dear friend was holding him tight with something on his head. When he took the handkerchief off of Owen's head, my heart went into my throat. (We'll get you another hanky, Duane) :)
He had fallen through some doors down about 8 feet, head first onto concrete. I came running home and Elise was here and she immediately asked what she could do, and I told her I wanted to go with Keith. She said to leave the kids with her (BLESS YOU, Elise)
We rushed him down to the bigger hospital and they classified him as a level II trauma which automatically calls the helicopter and trauma surgeon to be on standby. Not very settling for a Momma's heart.
The nurse and I cleaned him up and she put some numbing gel on his head.
One funny thing that Owen did was he wanted a picture of everything. He wanted to "see" it. He wanted to see his cut and the gel and his bandage and his stitches and everything in between...... :)
She wrapped his head so that he could go get x-rays and CT scans, he said he wanted to be a pirate.
They x-rayed his head, neck and right leg (he was complaining about it hurting) and did a CT scan of his head.
After we got back from that, Mrs. Jackson, was there. She was SUCH a blessing just to be there.
When the results from the x-ray's and CT scan came back the Dr. came and asked to talk to Keith outside the room.
He said something was wrong in the x-ray of his neck. He said sometimes it can be like that in a growing child, but sometimes it can mean something is terribly wrong and if so, he would need to be sent to the big children's hospital in St. Louis.
He wanted to do a CT scan of his neck before they sent him down there just to be sure.
Mrs. Jackson immediately had prayer for Owen that he would be completely healed.
They came in a put a neck collar on him and asked him not to move and took him to CT scan.
He was trying so hard to smile for Daddy.
The Dr. came in and out to check on him and when the results of the CT scan came back, the Dr. came and told us his neck looked completely normal - PRAISE THE LORD!!!!!
Then he got to work on cleaning and preparing for stitches. He said there was road rash all the way to the bone. :(
His nurse was Brenda and she was exceptional. We couldn't have asked for a better Dr., either!
Owen was SO brave!!!!!!!
After getting 4 stitches inside and 6 stitches outside, the Dr. released us to go home.
We are SO grateful to God for His protection and for allowing our sweet Owen to still be with us! I understand someone put him on Facebook, so THANK YOU for all who prayed for him! We appreciate that so very much!
He is healing good and other than a little pain and needing to be calm ( that's a hard one ) because he had a concussion, he's back to his normal self - except that Mommy has to keep him inside so he won't sweat.....ouch!
He asked me to take a picture of his "reward". Angie, that made his day when you gave that to him - THANK YOU!!!
We are so thankful for God's goodness to us!!!

Don't worry about a hankie, at all! We're just thankful he's doing well!
Owen, GOD HAS a PLAN for YOUR life!
What a scare for all of us!!! SO, SO, SO, thankful that the Lord was looking out for Owen. He sure keeps his guardian angel busy, doesn't he? So proud of him for being so brave through it all, and so thankful that he's doing OK. We need to add our thanks to Elise, Sis. Jackson, and all the others that helped and prayed.
Love to all,
Momma D
Wow that's so scary. So glad the story has a good ending. Dana
This made me cry, but they were not all tears of sadness. It's just another wonderful reminder! What a mighty God we serve...what a miracle...and what a happy ending! I'm so proud of Owen for being such a big boy. That would be pretty scary for him (and mommy and daddy, too)! And, as Della said, thanks to Elise and Sis. Jackson, and all the others, for their help and support. We are SOOOO blessed!
Love you all bunches,
Mom
